The Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority explained, by holding a workshop supported by the French Development Agency, the project of draft prepaid electricity meters. Ways to develop the project to be implemented with funding from the governments of France, Sweden and Norway were discussed. It includes the distribution of thousands of pre-paid meters by the electricity distribution companies in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip .
This initiative will supply electricity to the Palestinian population and address the challenges in this area, in particular, the occupation’s control of energy sources and natural resources, by finding alternative and renewable sources of energy. Projects to improve energy efficiency in various sectors will also be implemented, ensuring that energy security is achieved and energy supplied in a sustainable way.
The energy sector will absorb 28% of the National Development Plan for the years 2014-2016, according to Rami Hamdala, Prime Minister of the Palestinian government. The issue of energy supply remains one of the main Palestinian problems. This is partially mitigated by international aid, as happened in the Jenin Hospital which regained power in one of its floors, thanks to a solar project implemented by the Association Sunshine 4 Palestine. The cost of project was $130,000.
