Bahrain is pushing ahead with plans to develop a pilot renewable energy scheme, MEED’s Bahrain Energy Forum has been told.
Speaking at the MEED event in Manama on 22 April, Adnan Mohammed Fakhro, deputy chief executive for distribution & customer services, Electricity & Water Authority (EWA) said that the EWA was currently assessing tenders for the pilot scheme in the southern part of the country.
Fakhro said that the plant will have a 3MW photovoltaic (PV) solar energy component and a 2MW wind energy component.
He added that the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco) was close to commissioning a 5MW solar project, which it has developed in collaboration with the National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga), EWA and the University of Bahrain.
